Hybork with Powerklaw

Here we have another Hybork, this time armed with a powerklaw from the GW Ork Nobz plastic set as well as a missile pod from the GW Ork Lootaz set.

I have retained the classic colour scheme for this one with little use of green colour.  The Iron Jaw serves as a cyber replacement, so I took the opportunity to cover it in some blood.

I have been experimenting using Army Painter Purple Tone and Blue Tone to smooth out the contrasting highlights, using it mixed with Air Caste Thinner to dilute the glaze.  I find them to be fantastic products that give a nice streak free finish.

Lots of use of Army Painter Dark Tone and Green Tone especially on the powerklaw.  The copper areas also got some Citadel Verdigris on it as well as Ryza Rust and Flesh Wash.

Hello Sailork!

I made this nautically themed Hybork for the Oldhamer Legacy Crew 2015.

His name is Pop-eye the Sailork, credit for his naming go’s to Niibl on the Oldhammer forum.

Most of him is my sculpt – with the exceptions being the weapons and one hand which came form the Citadel Space Ork ranges.

His armament is deliberately Oldhammeresque, being armed with the original plastic Space Orks chiansword and a 3rd Edition Brian Nelson chainsword.

This is my own sculpting with the hands chopped off and replaced with weapon hands taken from GW Ork plastic kits.

They are compatible with standard ork/ork fittings and are multi part models with separate legs, arms and heads.

I plan to do a private crowd commissioned casting run for these guys soon, organised via Facebook.  Let me know if you are interested in getting in on the action.

Made this chap for an upcoming game of Brewhouse Bash with Mr. Saturday and Cheetor.  Savage Orc plastics is the base for this orkification of the popular Muppet Show character.

Tyranid Warrior with Deathspitter

 

 

Recently painted for the Fantasy 100 Club on the Oldhammer board:

 

He is painted in the classic Genestealer colours so that he matches in with the cult guys visually.  The bright green is an excellent spot colour for the predominantly purple and blue scheme.  The eyes are also this green colour (bileious green).

 

He is painted in a quick drybrush and ink style for the most part.

The Armour of the Moon

Back in March Axoim via the Oldhammer forum came up with the idea of running a challenge where people would paint a single model under a common theme and then the entire collection of figures would be awarded randomly to one of the participants.  The theme was basically a force of multi-racial lawful warriors sworn to seek out and destroy the forces of chaos.  The name for this warband, “The Dogs of Law”.

I duly volunteered to paint up a Slann for this, someone gotta represent for the frog people, can’t have the dry skins getting all the glory!

The simple approach would be to just paint up a suitable Slann model from my collection but being me I can’t just take a simple approach, ideas come and demand expression or they will just bounce around in my head irritatingly for years.  The idea which appealed to me the most was one rooted firmly in proper Warhammer cannon.

Antiriad is a corruption of Anti-Rad suit

The Slann of the Warhammer world are the remnants of a once mighty spacefaring species and so I wanted to create a character which gives a tip of the hat to all that jazz.  There were a couple of notable influences on this, Homer Simpson and the old computer game The Sacred Armour of Antiriad.

Slann Power Suit Conversion

“Moixa’remoh was once a humble servant of the Temple of the Moon at a time when the temple was set upon by raiders, devoted to the chaos god Tzeentch. During the course of the battle a great miscast of magical energies by the chaotic sorcerers directed at the temple had the curious effect of reactivating the warp reactor of an artefact of incalculable age.  As a high Slann artefact, it was much more than a mere machine.  The suit was symbiotic,  autonomous and intelligent and aware of the impending threat.  It reached out to the closest Slann mind, the mind of the servant Moixa’remoh who was drawn to it, and into it, bonding with the spirit of the suit.  A new prime operational directive was instated, enforce order, annihilate chaos…”

The colour choice for this one was to be more or less limited to olive and bone.  I wanted the suit to look ancient so I used a good deal of weathering on it with the exception of the mysterious glowing green weapons, the gold visor and the edge where the visor would have been clamped shut for aeons.

Halflequin

Finally finished the Halflequin paint job, huzzah!  This model took a fair bit of effort to get it to this level of finish but I think you may agree that the concept is worth the effort.  I think that I have managed to incorporate the Foundry colours nicely on the model which was the only colour constraint I set myself on this project.

This is a cool little sculpt that was a pleasure to hack up and remodel into this fun little guy.

A Halflequin

And how small is this small person you may ask? This small.

Halflequin Conversion

This year at BOYL attendees got one of these models sculpted by Kev Adams.  This is a lovely limited edition model with bags of character and charm.

When I got my copy of it and had a good look at it my brain immediately gravitated to the most novel and cool thing I could think of to do with it, which was to convert it into a character from the 40K universe.  This guy represents an illuminated ratling who hangs out with the Eldar Harlequins and runs the catering at any functions or events taking place in The Black Libray.

Good old limited edition models.  Best to chop these up as soon as you get them, the longer you leave the butchering the more morally outrageous it becomes ;).  This was a pretty complex conversion as they go what with the Harlequins kiss and all but worth the time spent I feel.  I have chosen to incorporate the original model’s hand over the easier option of using a hand from another model – mustn’t pollute the Kevness of the sculpt too much.  There is a tube from the bottom of the “mask” running underneath the hood, a gemstone on the belt sculpted on the front.  Pistol is from the vulnerably old Eldar weapons sprue.

On the back I sculpted on a Harlequin style backpack as well as that towel looking thing that Harleyquins keep handy on their belts for some inscrutable reason.

Next I need to work on the base for this chap.  I plan to incorporate the base with the “OLDHAMMER” and “2014” into the base for the model.  I think I can make that work, yeah no hassle!

 

All in all I am pleased with how this chap came out, I am sure it will be a pleasure getting some paint on him.  I freely admit that I always loved painting the Harleys.  The background for them and the associated models encourage you to get out of your comfort zone with the painting, that’s for sure.  Not exactly sure what he will end up looking like but I plan to go with the Foundry colours.

 

“Da Red Ferret” – Shadowtrakk

I plan to bring a force of Red Shadowz to BOYL 2014 to take part in some GorkaMorka.  “Da Red Ferret” is a scratch built shadowtrakk taken from my regular ork forces and given a good pimping up for the event.

It now features reinforced armour, reinforced ram, a new engine, a pintle mounted big shoota and a shiny new red paint job.  The red paint was immediately given a large amount or weathering using my newly acquired rust and corrosion Games Workshop technical paints.

If the orks with the leather fetish don’t kill you the tetanus might!

The Red Ferret is inspired by the Action Force Hyena.  I was certainly torn between going for a cleaner toy like style of painting and weathering the shit out of it using my new technical paints…needless to say the new paints won out.

The pintle mounted gun has been magnetised for easy transport and interchangeability with other weapons if the whimsy takes me to make a rocket launcher option.  There is plenty of space to fit a couple of models into this vehicle which while not necessary, is a useful feature for immersive GorkaMorka play.

Zardork and the Black Major crewing Da Ferret

Decals are all hand painted and then ruined with overzealous weathering for that authentic orky feel.

Zardoz (1974)  is one of those movies that burned itself into my mind as a kid and it is not difficult to imagine why with imagery like this…

 

 

…Sean Connery in a wedding dress, yes indeed.

Expurgation of something like this from my mind calls for my calls for some Warhammer 40,000 catharsis.

 

ZARDORK

Zardork has been built using the Savage Orc plastics from Games Workshop.  The base is a (edit, thanks Cheetor)30mm round base from EM4 miniatures and was kindly donated by Cheetor over at Sho3box, cheers dude!  The 30mm is a good fit for the wide stances of some of the models from the kit.  I hacked off any extraneous details from the model, reposed it and then did some green stuff sculpting to get him to look like Sean Connery in one of the most bizzare costumes in cinema history.  The gun is from the plastic Necromunda Goliath gangers in case you were wondering.

 

He is wearing a big ass ring which although not in the image above is from the movie none the less.  You will just have to watch the bugger if you want to know what that is about, perhaps more than once!  The ring is real plastic, just like the movie.

He took me a fair while to make, but I think he was worth the effort.  Naturally now I feel the need to make an orky version of one of these for him to ride around in:
